Hey guys, I was wondering what a good amp would be for melodic metal stuff like kalmah or bodom. I'd prefer a half stack that would suit this type of music, but any size amp would be fine.I'm open to any brands as long as it get s the job done;)

Any suggestions..? :)

peavey's hi gain models 5150(darker SLO replica) , triple x(brighter sounding)

that bodom dude is currently using Marshall amps
Im sure you can find out what model if you look into it a bit.or maybe someone here would like to help?

I'd take a peavey jsx over a 5150/6505 any day. Plus 3 usable channels. :)

bodom uses marshall but a lot of there tone comes from a shit load of rack stuff so dont bet your money on one amp to get that tr00 b0d0m tone.

i'd recommend peavey 6505+, Engl powerball (or the special edition if you have the money), soldano, marshall jvm

Check out some Randalls man. I have a brand new randall V2 in the box that didn't sell on ebay. PM me for pricing and save HUNDREDS off of the $1200 new price tag.

I've actually been trying to find a good Randall amp that would give me the tone i'm looking for. I heard Michael Amott from Arch Enemy uses them..
What does the V2 sound like? is it a half stack?

It's just the head.....if you have heard the new Rise of The Tyrant cd it's pretty much that tone easily.

MyApocalypse

That sounds pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of Arch Enemy and i like the tone they've got on that album. Yeah i googled it and saw that it was just a head.. Like i've said earlier I don't have alot of money..if i did i would definately consider buying..but then i'd also have to buy a cab.

the_emptier
02-22-2008, 07:36 PM
welll if your saying only like 1000 bucks for head and the cab... then i'd recommend a peavey xxl and a marshall 1960 cab, or a randall rh series head

I'm definately looking for something less pricey

Nice. They sound pretty good IMO. Right now anything is better than my amp.:P its some Fender Frontman random that i've had since i started playing. Don't get me wrong though, After running it through my Digitech GNX1, it sounds fine. But i definately need a new amp sometime soon. It also helps alot that everyone's so damn friendly here :D Thanks man

try looking into Bugera amps I hear theyre pretty good 5150 replicas and can be found for around $400.Arch Enemy started out on the 5150's and used them to record burning bridges.

Yeah, whenever there are threads about amps, the 5150's name always gets tossed around a few times:lol I'll check out these Bugera amps. thanks

odd request...

but anything the guys have mentioned previously will work...

I run a class A combo with a pedal (gain fxxer II) and it can get really heavey sounds... I set it up that I compared it to a Uberschall side by side and it sounds almost identical...just something to think on

What about the RX series?
those are alright... not very impressive, to be honest... the G3's on the other hand...

keep an eye open for both the Randall G3 half-stacks and the Peavey Valveking half-stack and... those are my personal recommendations

if you don't mind buying used, look for a good deal on Line 6 Flextone II head/cab

LOL there is no Randall on their recording.

AFAIK it's Peaveys, Mesas and ENGL, with Peavey being the only constant.

Better save up and go for an RH. I've had an RX120... big no-no in my book.

I didn't say they used them....He asked what they sound like and I said that tone is easily achieved with this head....I know because I've done it. Anyways there's some recent youtube videos with Michael and Christopher showing riffs and stuff from that album had them using Randall RM100's with Ultra XL modules designed after the T2/V2 amps and it sounded real Close to the tone on the album. You can get a V2 to sound like just about anything.

I'm not 100% sure if he uses them but he has a signature head..so i assume he's used them at some point.

I'm trying to sell my Randall RG 150 G3 half stack right now for pretty cheap. It's in great, like new, condition. I won't be able to ship it though, pick up is a must. So that could be a problem. PM me if you are interested.
