You realize you're asking this on the ESP message board, right?

Just checking.

lol, what a question... Ask this in a neutral forum. This isn't the right place to get a uninfluenced answer..

In all seriousness in terms of Value ESP beats most other guitar companies outside of possibly Carvin. ESP's are crafted well and come with superior parts compared to the competition.

Jackson's bottom of the line Soloist will cost a grand and is equipped with horrible pickups.

Most Ibanez guitars even ones costing over a grand come with Ibanez brand pickups.

I'm not trying to bad mouth Ibanez because a lot of their guitars actually have a good feel to them. Just in my experience I have always had to add something to an Ibanez where as an ESP is just about perfect right out of the box (and for less money).

-1. The Japanese Soloist SL-3 comes with real duncans. Downside to it is it's a hit and miss. You either get a sweet one that kicks ass or a lemon that just blows in detail and quality. ESP on the other hand is much more consistent in quality than the Japanese Jacksons.

Most Ibanez guitars even ones costing over a grand come with Ibanez brand pickups.

That is true, but the Ibanez Prestige Japanese line is of excellent quality and they use good woods and all come with a plush hardshell case starting at 750 bucks and up. Best bang for the buck in terms of Japanese quality guitar with great attention to detail.

+1. ESP has more variety of guitars to choose from as Ibanez's bread and butter is pretty much the RG and the S series.

Ibanez Prestige Guitars are amazing, although I don't like the shape of the RG's. I have an Ibanez, too. But it's "just" one of the normal RG series. ESP has amazing/better finishes and I like the shapes of the most ESP's more than the Ibanez-shapes. In the end it will be the best to check your two guitars in a store and to decide after you had both guitars in your hands.

Thanks.

Yeah, I guess I have to try both at the store. Sorry to everyone that I offended by posting a Ibanez question/comment. The bad news is that I have to wait till Sam Ash gets both ESP Horizon FR and Ibanez SV Prestige.

A Jem7V or a top J Custom is more of a match to a Horizon.

Actually I am also thinking about getting an Ibanez SV. I know I shouldn't be saying this in this forum. But the truth is that there aren't any guitars in the ESP catalog that look classic and can play metal at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I know Horizons and Eclipses look classic and can play any kind of music, but I can't understand why there isn't a version of Michael Wilton's guitar without the custom graphics, or a GL that has not been reliced . If ESP had a super Strat with maple neck and a nice SD or EMG pups combo, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the only options are MW and GL replicas, which I don't find too cool. That's the only reason I am lookin' to Japanese made Ibanez.:\

Have you looked into the M-II standard models? They have SD and EMG pickup combos. Come in bolt on's and neck thru's.

The main thing that keeps me attracted to Ibanez is their headstock. I love the shape and the logo just matches perfectly. I might try and visit my guitar shop to try out Ibanez' new trem system. Not so much into the S body style though, so I'd go with the ESP.

Hi espdood,

I already checked those models and find them all really cool, especially the M-II with Duncans!! However, I am looking for a more "classic" guitar, something that doesn't look too metal. Something like an ESP Vintage with a SD JB in the bridge is what I am looking for. Maybe it's worth buying one and them changing the scratch plate and swaping the bridge single coil with a SD JB. The only reason why I might not do it is 'cause I hate the reliced finish. Who said reliced finish and abalone binding are cool?

You could possibly look into a few fender's with humbuckers in the bridge position. Do you want one with a floyd?

The plder models don't have the reliced finish, dude.. here in Slovenia there are a few strat shaped Vintage Series ESPs with normal satin sunburst finish ;)

Thanks Helldragon. Unfortunatelly we don't get any of those models here in Spain. I'll shop around and see if I can find one of the old models. That'd be sweet!

That's one of the models I'm also considering. However, I am not a big fan of FRs, so I guess I would stick to the ones with the vintage tremolo.
