hey guys, I'm going to different retailer's forums and asking around about what kind of guitar that the community suggests.

first off, i'm not that experienced in the knowledge of guitars. i got an ibanez GSA for christmas 3 years ago, and i self taught myself and can play by ear.

secondly, I play lead. i play stuff like this; www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaL5vFYVLUs and this; www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdlovtN7gZw

anyway, i suspect that there are electric guitars made for leads and solo's, and others made for playing rhythm or whatever. i just dont know what to look for in guitars with my needs.

So what I'm asking is, what should I look for in guitars(humbuckers, tremelos, whatever), and, what do you guys suggest? I've had people suggest ibanez SZ's, RG Tremelo's, SA's. i'd like some suggestions for an ESP also.

my price range is like... $400 - $700, i guess. thanks in advance to anyone that actually reads all this and responds :lol

Umm, you can't go wrong with an esp/ltd, honestly.. The necks are not thick, nor thin, si they are ideal for any style in my opinion.. If you're looking for fast necks, check out the higher end Ibanez guitars, but nothing beats personal preference so go to your local dealer and try some guitars you think suits you. And if the dealer is serious, he/she won't hesitate ordering a guitar for you to try out, since it's sellable if you decide not to buy it..

yeah. the only local major guitar store is sam ash which is about 15-20 mins away. i'll get down there eventually to try things out. in the mean time, i'll stick with the ibanez RG350DX.

Well I just wrote you a 4 paragraph essay on what you should do but when I clicked post it logged me out and deleted everything. I'll make it shorter this time.

Don't get a 350 DX! It feels like a toy and is truly a beginner guitar. It only sells so well because of it's looks. Check out ebay, there are tons of these guitars in "like new" condition.

In your price range look into a 400 or higher series LTD. You will get better woods, better pickups, and better just about everything else. If you go any lower you will probably end up spending more money to upgrade the pickups and in the end you will have spend as much as you would have if you bought a 400 in the first place.

Also, if you can save up a few hundred bucks more you might be able to get a real ESP on the used market. I see Horizon's in the $1000 range on ebay about once a month.

Good luck!

yeah, i was looking at this horizon earlier,http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=72&TempID=3&DepartmentID=1&STRID=13214&CategorySubID=681&CategoryID=681&BrandID=1345&CategorySubPriceRangeID=0&pagesize=10&SortMethod=3&Method=3&PriceRangeID=0&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode=&categorysubsearch=true

if that's good then i'll go ahead and start saving for it.

ps. i also heard that the RG350 was cheap. stiff bridge, goes out of tune when dive bombing, and some reports of bad pickup.

Your link leads to the KH202. But I assume you meant to link to one of the H1001's or maybe an MHNT 400. Both of which are excellent choices. If you are looking for a floyd, there are similar choices such as the M series.

it's supposed to be the 1001, running at $799.

they also have the MH1000.

Both the H1001 and the MH1000 are great choices. When it comes down to those, you just have to decide between a floyd rose (double locking trem) or a fixed bridge. You can never go wrong with the horizon shape though, IMO.

I don't beleive there are certain guitars for lead rythem. It's all about what feels right to you. Have you tried any ESP/LTD's? Have you tried more than the regular strat shape? Anyways, right now I'm using a Bill Lawrence for the bridge and a Dimarzio SD for the neck, but my playing style involves alot more gain than what I seen in the videos. Are there any bands you can point out that have a tone that your interested in?

All I can point you to right now is something with a strat body. Most likely you'll prefer the thin-u neck if your digging that ibanez. Check out the X2N and Dimarzio SD pickups and see if you like em'.

sorry I couldnt help much, just giving my suggestions.

Well for starters if you told us whether you want something strat-style, LesPaul-style or SG-style, that would help.

For the strat-style guitars I like the Fender American Highway Strats, but many on this board seem to prefer Ibanez.

i dont know what style i want. i'm just a beginner that has been playing for 3 years so i just have raw un-developed talent (i think).

i have an ibanez gsa, and i havent played any other guitar. so i dont know what i like. which is why i need to go to sam ash and try some out. so far i have my eyes on the jackson dkmg dinky, ibanez S520, and the Fender 48th street custom strat. i have considered the ibanez SZ520, and either the LTD MH1000 or the horizon M1001.

now i just need to play some out and pick one...:|

exactly. i should have said, i've had a guitar for 3 years. i didnt really start playing until a couple months ago.

Also, I said that the only guitar i've had is an ibanez GIO, and i havent taken any lessons or had any exposure to anything different.

Couldn't you just wait till you have more money to get a guitar that would really appeal to you in terms of quality, looks, and playability? Just a thought.
